Even though it is good to have some stress in our lives and worry is often part of the cause of that stress, because of the challenges and unknowns you may face day to day. The first step to stopping your worry is to objectively analyze the risk you are facing. Chances are that in the past  you have envisioned  the outcome to a situation and got yourself all worked up about what could happen only to find out  that it was not that bad. Being realistic and analyzing the situation for what it is will help you deal with worry more effectively. Instead of expecting the worse, jot down a few positive options and begin to focus on those outcomes.

When those negative thoughts come to you the next thing to learn about how to stop worrying is something called thought stopping. As soon as a negative thought comes up you must not let it take control of you, instead you will say “STOP”, repeatedly until the thought abates. Then you will replace that negative thought with one more constructive to bring positive feelings to  you.

Another key factor in knowing how to stop worrying is to work at being optimistic about life. When you have a positive attitude there is no way you can become obsessed with worry. This does not mean you will not be prepared for the worst case scenario because in life stuff does happen, with a positive attitude you will prepare for what could happen and then be able to put a positive spin on whatever does occur.

If you are overcome by worries it helps to write them down so you can look at them on paper, and then tackle them one at a time. Deal with each one using the realistic approach mentioned above and trust in yourself that you can handle them in a different way. There are many types and forms of meditation but no matter which method you employ the benefit you receive is equal to the other. The goal is to calm your mind, which will not let worry take hold and will help you deal with any situation in a calm peaceful way.

Whichever techniques you try in order for them to be effective you must make them a habit. How to stop worrying is a way of life that needs to be practiced on a daily basis so it will be with you during the challenging times.
